Did You See the First Shoots of Stinging Nettle Appearing?

Submitted by Doris Potter
Instead of being reviled, consider stopping for a moment. Stinging Nettle (Urtica diocia) is one of the best healing plants found in our part of the world. When I looked it up it listed it as a remedy for 29 symptoms of illness! Don’t worry I will not bother you with them all! But I will give you the gist of its quality.
Stinging nettle is a close companion to mankind. You will find it wherever humans are dwelling or have dwelled, never in places where there was no settlement. The young stinging nettle leaves are very rich in vitamins and iron and can be used as a very nutritious vegetable or as tea. read more →
Ger’s January 19 Monthly Update

A fresh new year is upon us once again and we hope you’re as excited as we are at the prospect of a new year and all the amazing possibilities that it offers. We here in Only Natural hope that we will continue to be part of your journey into natural health and we will try to bring you the latest information, trends and products as they hit the scene over the coming year.
Propolis
As winter progresses we turn to vitamins C and D, Zinc, Echinacea and Olive Leaf, Oregano Oil and Garlic, all the traditional immune boosters to keep sickness at bay. This year however I think that a sometimes overlooked winter ally is going to make a bit of a comeback. I’m thinking of propolis. Also called bee glue, propolis is a resinous mixture that honey bees produce by mixing saliva and beeswax with resins gathered from tree buds. They use it to keep the hive infection free and it seems it can have a similar effect for us. read more →
A Chaga Recipe from Anthony William

Anthony William is a blogger and author on natural healing that I admire a lot and when I read this recipe based on the therapeutic properties of Chaga mushrooms I immediately wanted to share it here. I’m in no position to personally endorse anything as an anti cancer agent but, given the proliferation of the disease in today’s society, I feel that people should be aware of its potential and given the choice to use what they choose alongside of, or indeed in place of, conventional treatment. Here’s his take on Chaga and a suggestion on how to use it.
Spiced Creamy Hot Chaga
Nothing quite hits the spot and soothes the soul like a warm drink on a cold day (or anytime of year!). Add in the incredible medicinal properties of Chaga mushroom and some special healing spices, and you have yourself a deeply therapeutic and delicious drink to enjoy. This recipe would be wonderful to serve to friends and family or to savor on a quiet morning or evening alone. read more →

Miso Soup, Simply Amazing

Mangan’s, Wexford’s Chip Shop with a difference!

I never thought I’d be reviewing a chipper for Only Natural but our food culture is changing and that’s exactly what I’m doing today. I recently had a chat with Geraldine, the owner of Mangan’s in The Faythe because I’m fascinated by just how much she’s taken the idea of traditional chip shop fare (not the healthiest of cuisines) and substantially changed it to reflect today’s changing tastes and dietary choices. Geraldine was certainly ahead of the curve when she decided to overhaul her menu in favour of healthier options in June 2016. She was certainly the first in Wexford to realize that she could attract a broader audience by offering healthier and vegetarian choices beside traditional chip shop fare. What’s exciting is just how successful her initiative has been with the result that she’s still adding to the choices on offer. She’s effectively broadened her restaurant’s appeal to include those of us who want the convenience and tastiness of a take away now and again but without the heart clogging downside. We applaud you Geraldine.

Medicinal Mushrooms, Ancient Healing for the Modern World

The use of medicinal mushrooms for healing and health enhancement goes back millennia in eastern cultures but relatively little is known about their properties and benefits in the west. Until recently that is, as health scientists have taken a serious interest in their uses and beneficial properties. We’ve just taken on a range in the form of dried mushroom powders and, as we’re keen to recommend them where appropriate, have been doing our research. The Company’s called Om Organic Mushroom Nutrition and they’re based in California. Their remit is to organically grow and minimally process (low temperature drying and powdering) the most potent medicinal mushrooms on the planet. They sell them individually and in combinations. Here’s some information I found on the web on just three of them Reishi, Chaga and Cordyceps.
