First as a grower and then having been trained at the College of Phytotherapy to become a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists, the oldest body of practising herbalists in existence (est. 1864) . He did a post-grad in Chinese Herbal Medicine to become a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine. He runs a busy practice in both Letterkenny and Derry for the last 20 years as well as a busy health food store for nearly 25 years along with his wife in Letterkenny.

Love Your Bones!

MAG365 Only Natural

World Osteoporosis Day is happening on 20th October and Claire from our most popular magnesium supplement MAG365 came to pay us a visit and reminded us that their range of products does not stop at magnesium! Claire has very kindly penned the below blog for us focusing on their bone products.

What Is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a very common condition in Ireland, it is a ‘thinning’ of the bones and is a disease that manifests itself in childhood. However it often doesn’t become an issue until later in life when we become more aware of our bone density and maybe Osteopenia is a concern.

Lorna’s Back to School Tips with Active Iron

Back to School Tips Active Iron Only Natural

It’s that time of year again for the kids to head back to school. As they dive in to classes, sports, and other after-school activities, it’s a good idea to take a few measures to help set them up for a healthy year. Here are our top 5 back to school health tips to think about.

Bedtime

It’s important for kids and adults to get enough sleep each night. Most adults need around eight hours of sleep every night with kids needing a little more. Sticking to a routine is important so those early mornings don’t become grumpy ones. Set them (and yourself) up for the day with a reasonable bedtime. read more →

A Day with The Master!

Ger and Kim with Ian White Australian Bush Flower
Last month Kim and I spent a day in the lovely surroundings of Malahide Castle in Dublin learning more about the Australian Bush Flower essences from Ian White the Australian healer and naturopath who’s spent most of his life developing the range and training others in their use. It was inspirational to spend time in his company. The first thing I noticed about him was his slow, deliberate, way of speaking, frequently punctuated by pauses for reflection. His spirituality, sincerity and his deep love for the remedies and admiration for the plants that they’re made from were obvious from the start and he peppered the day with many stories of people who’d been helped spiritually, emotionally and physically by them. He showed many slides of himself gathering the plants to make the remedies (he does all of that himself!) in the outback and the majesty of the Australia’s nature seemed to validate the potency of the remedies (as well as making me want to be on an Australia bound aeroplane at the earliest possible opportunity!). read more →

Diann’s Herbal Tales

Dianna Herbal Tales Only Natural

Diann Fletcher Jones amongst many things is a recently qualified medicinal herbalist, as you can imagine Diann herself is very passionate about the health benefits that herbs can bring and so has decided to share some of this information on a monthly basis! And hopefully before too long we will have a catalogue of different herbs for various ailements and conditions that you can refer to anytime you wish.

Stop and Smell the Flowers

Suddenly we are cocooned in blankets of summer green, the gentle vibration of the earth is pulsing with life force and if we stop to listen a sense of well-being cascades over us.
This is the healing for this month, just stop, slow down, bend to the open flower and partake of its healing fragrance, touch the terrain of  a tree trunk and senses it’s heart beat, listen to the wind through the leaves. Be aware of the humdrum of busy insects and the magic of the sun as it dapples drops of light on the earth. That is where you will find peace and health this month .
With love and blessings
Diann x

Ger’s May 18 Monthly Update

Ger's Monthly Update Only Natural

A natural tan (with or without the sun)

It’s been a harsh winter and I’d like to think that, if there is any justice, a great summer complete with all the benefits of getting out of doors more, is on the way. Many of us will think of how to get that summer sun kissed look but because (a) there are no guarantees of sun in Ireland and, (b) when it does show its face, we have to be so careful about being safe in the sun, I think it’s wise to have a plan B in place. Many people turn to tanning products to get the look without sun or sunbed. But even here care is needed as many of the mainstream tanning products are so full of chemicals that, when you consider that what you put onto your skin inevitably passes into your bloodstream, you might feel it best to avoid them.
