So what’s the low down on Only Natural this month??

Firstly our rather fantastic Surya Brasil Henna Hair Colour Competition

If you’ve ever coloured your hair with henna (and I have, albeit a while ago), you’ll know just how good it feels. Unlike chemical hair dyes which penetrate the hair shaft, henna coats it. The result is a wonderful thickening and conditioning of the hair. It’s also the only 100% natural hair colorant I know of.
Our friends in Surya Brasil have given us a fantastic prize worth €500 exclusive to Only Natural!  Just check out here to find out more details.

Run, run, run……

Look out for a number of athletic specimens that you’re more used to seeing behind the counter in Only Natural in this year’s Wexford Triathlon Club 10k run taking place in Rosslare this Easter Monday.  Nichola and Michelle are gearing up for it, but hopefully you’ll see a few more of us on the day!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]According to their website : “Each year, on Easter Monday, Wexford Triathlon Club organises a 10k road race in the popular seaside resort of Rosslare Strand. Our first race in 2010 was a great success with 180 runners and walkers enjoying a great race with a great atmosphere.  Since then the race has gone on from strength to strength.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”9485″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_outline” border_color=”green”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The course is two laps of a mostly flat course which starts and finishes at the beach car park in the centre of Rosslare village. The course takes runners out towards Ashfield Cross (towards the N25/N11) before turning left onto the local Ford of Lyng Road and back into the village.”

Only Natural is proud to be among the races’ sponsors this year and we look forward to seeing you there.

Recipe

I’m reading a book called Recipes for a Nervous Breakdown in which Sophie White relates how food and the love of food has been the saving of her at times in life when very little else was keeping her sane. I was quite taken with her recipe for Chewy Quinoa Granola Bars which turn out to be simple to make, wholesome and rather tasty. You don’t even have to be pregnant and in danger of taking a bite out of the sofa like Sophie was when she invented the recipe to enjoy them!

What’s new in Store?

Well if you need a little more culture in your life we can help you start a healthy new hobby. We now have starter cultures for Kombucha, Water Kefir and Milk Kefir. If you saw the recent BBC documentary on the best sources of good probiotic bacteria (Kefir, which is a fermented milk, or water, drink, came out on top!). These kits are simplicity itself to use (check out the videos on the Happy Kombucha web site) and you’ll be giving starter cultures away to your friends before you know it. We’re really excited about this relatively easy and inexpensive way of keeping your tummy (and all the rest of you!) in tip top shape with probiotics you make in your own kitchen!

Non Toxic Nail Polish

And while on the subject of style and beauty we’ve added to our Benecos affordable organic bodycare range.  Their ‘Happy Nails’ nail polish range offers the choice 16 different and affordable (€8.91) polishes. All are vegan and the top five toxins in regular nail polishes (Formaldehydes, Toluene, Camphor, Phthalates and Colophony) all have no place here!
At that price why would you want to keep putting chemicals on your nails?

How about a new coat of paint this spring?

Colin Naughton from Tullybards in Bridgetown has been offering a painting and decorating service since 1995 but his latest step is to offer a whole new level of purity.
Colin is importing Ecos Organic Paints for his business. The Ecos business was first contemplated in 1983 when two paint chemists Ian West and John Ashworth realized they could produce superior quality paints and varnishes without using undesirable chemicals. Six years later the Ecos range was born, the world’s first range of decorative paints, all odourless and completely free of solvents and toxic chemicals. The company says that customers who suffer from asthma, M.E., chronic fatigue and post-viral fatigue syndrome happily use Ecos Paints without aggravating their conditions. Why not think about it if you’re sensitive to chemicals in the environment or if you just want to have a cleaner, more natural environment for you and your family? If you’re an asthma or allergy sufferer or about to bring a newborn baby back home this could be of real benefit. The difference in cost may be less than you think.
We wish Colin every success with his new venture. He can be contacted on 087 2216242.

Time To Get Planting

Last summer we got our first deliveries of seeds from Irish Seed Savers who grow, conserve and distribute Irish, organic vegetable and flower seeds which would otherwise be lost to future generations. This year we have a bigger choice than ever so next time you’re in the shop check them out, support the cause of Irish biodiversity and enjoy the fun of growing and eating your own Irish heritage, organic plants.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5050″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_outline” border_color=”green”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

A customer recommended :

Putting a drop of cedarwood oil in with every wash. Apparently it’s as good as old fashioned moth balls (and a lot more pleasant smelling!) at keeping the moths away from stored clothes.

A New Therapist

We look forward to working with Lorraine Horrell who’s a Holistic Counsellor and Psychotherapist so we thought we’d let her tell you a bit about herself:
I work in a very person centred way, which means that it is a very gentle approach and values the relationship between client and therapist. This approach is non judgemental and very empathic. During my time in college, I learned various different theories: Gestalt, Psycho-dynamic, Existential, Psychosynthesis, CBT, etc…
I work in different ways with different clients but fundamentally I work in a person centred way. I work creatively with clients, using art and sometimes through stories. I really enjoy dream work with clients and this method can be very rewarding and insightful. I have done a lot of personal development and have done extra study with art and creative writing. It seemed natural for me to move into this profession as I have always liked to listen to others and to draw and write so helping others to find their creativity or to find their voice in whatever way helps them is an honour. Next year I plan to continue my studies and learn how to use them with adolescents.
I trained with ICPPD for four years, foundation and diploma.
Irish Gestalt Centre, 1 Year of diploma.
Currently studying for Degree in counselling/psychotherapy with Cork Counselling Centre.

Remember you’ll be putting your clocks forward on March 26th and your body clock may be thrown out of sync. Magnesium powder or tablets and valerian or lemon balm in tea, tincture or tablet form are all good to have on hand when your sleep rhythm needs a little help.
Stay well
Ger
