Rosslare Triathlon Club 10k race

We were thrilled to be among the sponsors of this event this year. The feel good factor and sense of fun and achievement on the day were palpable. John Baldwin whom we work with on the promotion of Mag 365 powder and other great products ran the race and finished in an impressive 37.33 mins. John was also kind enough to give one on one sports performance consultations in Only Natural a week after the race. Our own Nichola finished the race in a very respectable 53.44 mins – we’re proud of you Nichola! Among my own contributions was to hand out (and consume a number of!) Ruth’s specially commissioned for the day energy balls. These were such a big hit, they’re so easy to make and so good, keep an eye out on our website for the recipe!

Practitioner Update

We’re truly delighted at just how well Belinda Kehoe’s Wexford Skin Clinic has done in the two years since its beginning and always mention Belinda as an option for customers who want a truly holistic approach to their skin issues whether they be serious ones like psoriasis or rosacea or just their day to day skincare maintenance. Encouraged by her success Belinda has just moved to her shiny, new Temple to Natural Skincare on the waterfront just beside South East Radio.  Want to read more about her approach, have a read here.

Staff Update

We’re really happy to have Chloé back on the team after her maternity leave. In case you didn’t know Chloé and her husband Raj became the proud parents of a beautiful little girl Neala last year but now Chloé’s ready for a few days on the shop floor again. And now as well as her previous experience and all the knowledge gained during four years becoming a Nutritional Therapist she’ll have her own experience of natural babycare to share.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

You’ll also be seeing a new face in Only Natural soon. Despite the potential for confusion we’re taking on a second Paul. Paul Wright is currently half way through the same journey to becoming a Nutritional Therapist. He has a keen interest in using diet and supplementation for health promotion largely stemming from having used these tools to control his own diabetes over the years. I’m sure he has a very broad spectrum of knowledge but Paul will certainly be our go to expert when it comes to blood sugar control! Welcome on board Paul.
I’m truly proud of the Only Natural team right now, we each have our own specialities and passions and we’re totally dedicated to promoting natural health and lifestyle. So welcome back Chloé and welcome on board Paul.

What’s New?

I tried two new products which really impressed at a trade show I attended in London recently.

The first was jackfruit. Apparently the biggest tree borne fruit in the world, the jackfruit is being recognized as a great source of nutrition and other health benefits. In fact I culled the following from the net.

  • 100 g of edible jackfruit bulbs provide 95 calories. The fruit made of soft, easily digestible flesh (arils) made up of simple sugars like fructose and sucrose that when eaten replenishes energy and revitalizes the body instantly.
  • Jackfruit is rich in dietary fiber, which makes it a good bulk laxative. The fiber content helps protect the colon mucous membrane by binding to and eliminating cancer-causing chemicals from the colon.
  • The fresh fruit has small but significant amounts of vitamin-A.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

  • Jackfruit is a good source of antioxidant vitamin-C, provides about 13.7 mg or 23% of RDA. Consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful free radicals.
  • It is one of the rare fruits that is rich in a B-complex group of vitamins. It contains outstanding amounts of vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid.
  • Further, fresh fruit is a good source of potassium, magnesium, manganese, and iron. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure.

It’s been called vegan pulled pork and, I think, rightly so. It comes in tins, in water or brine for savory dishes or in syrup for sweet. Like tofu it’ll take on any flavour you throw at it and it really does have that stringy, satisfying texture of slow cooked meat. This makes it perfect for vegan and vegetarian cuisine or for anyone who just wants to eat less meat. Watch this space, I can’t wait to experiment and I’m sure we’ll be giving you some jackfruit recipes soon.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_empty_space height=”48px”][vc_single_image image=”10391″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_outline” border_color=”green”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]And secondly we have Viridian’s new Curcumin Latte. There are many turmeric lattes on the market as this root’s reputation as an all-round healer goes from strength to strength but few have the guaranteed high potency, full curcuminoid (Turmeric’s beneficial compounds) content of the Viridian offering. So if you want to reap the benefits of the wonder root and would prefer a daily cuppa to taking it in capsule or tincture form then this is the one for you. Viridian have combined turmeric root the other beneficial spices ginger, chilli, cardamom and cinnamon and vanilla bean powder. I tried it made on coconut milk and the taste was dreamy. I know how I’ll be getting my turmeric benefits.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]And I can’t resist mentioning the Kakadu Plum. Could this be the next big Superfood? Maybe so but for now Nature’s Plus have managed to turn this traditional Australian Bush Tucker crop into a wonderful new skincare range.

  • The Kakadu plus range is anti-ageing/nourishing and moisturising
    • Kakadu plum is the ingredient of the future!
    • This tiny plum is sustainably wild harvested by the indigenous people of Australia and has 50 x the vitamin C activity of an orange
    • It is a rich source of antioxidant compounds with a rich mixture of phenolic compounds, high levels of vitamin C, E, folate and lutein. It also contains essential minerals like Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc and Iron. Protects the skin against free radical damage. Assists in maintaining collagen production
    • The Kakadu range also includes macadamia, bearberry and yucca cactus

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

  • The range comprises a cleanser, a face cream and a serum to encourage collagen production.
  • The plastic tubes have an enzyme added that makes it biodegradable in soil so it is entirely recyclable. We Have sample sachets for anyone who wants to try them. A lovely range and very affordable. I’m impressed!
