Tina is instore on Saturday afternoons 3pm til 6pm apart from the last weekend of the month when she will be in on the Sunday 2pm til 5pm. For a personalised session or to book an appointment contact Tina on 089 702 0235 and she will be able to advise what treatment is right for you.

Tina Wilkins wants to share with us some simple things that anyone can do to introduce some positive energy and healing into our daily lives. In today’s society I think we could all do with a bit of extra positivity and these tips added to over time won’t take much time out of your day but may make you feel that little bit more positive about life!

As the nights draw in and it gets colder, natures answer is to withdraw, to pull back from life and slumber until the spring dawns. This made me think about how unnatural our rhythm has become, how apart from nature. For whilst the natural state is to rest, majority of ‘us’ will be caught up in the Christmas rush or trying to cram as much into the daylight hours as we can.

Ayurvedic Information Coffee Morning

Coffee Morning Only Natural

Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. And that everyone’s physical, emotional and spiritual makeup is determined by the balance within them of the five elements earth, water, air, fire and spirit.

If you feel you want learn more about this ancient tradition make sure to come along to our Ayurvedic Coffee Morning on Friday 13th April from 10.30am when Rachel Collins from Elysium Sanctuary will be in with us chatting about how Ayurveda, Yoga or any of the therapies Elysium offers.  And of course there will be plenty of tea, coffee and goodies to eat!!

Product of the Month – Viridian 7 Day Sugar Detox

Product of the Month Viridian 7 Day Sugar Detox

Sugar is the new smoking; it is addictive and linked to a wide range of serious health problems and, like cigarettes 20 years ago, there are no health warnings on high-sugar foods.  Sugar and refined carbohydrates from white bread, pasta, bakery items, cereals and sweetened beverages can disrupt your blood sugar balance over time. Another problem is that sugar makes healthy food taste worse, as our taste buds are conditioned to the sweetness of sugary foods.

Recently a sugar detox was found to be a very successful way to reduce sugar cravings (within a few days), reduce desire for sugary foods, and improve the taste of healthier alternatives. A sugar detox could be the start of your road to better energy levels, better mood and a whole list of other ‘betters’.

Viridian, the company we love for their ethical stance just as for their brilliantly effective products, have just brought out a great tool in the fight to change our sugary ways, The 7 Day Sugar Detox. The great thing is that it’s not just a product (although the combination of cinnamon and chromium that it contains probably is THE nutritional path to better blood sugar balance), it also comes with great support in the form of a free app which helps you track just how much sugar, much of it hidden in foods, you’re currently eating, how to make better food choices to support the supplement’s action and lots of information on just how refined carbohydrates are bad for your metabolism.

Product of the Month Viridian 7 Day Sugar Detox

There’s even a suggested mealplan and recipes for each meal of the day, with many of them from, our friend of the store, Oliver McCabe’s Fuel Food Cookbook (Viridian and Oliver are now working closely together).  You can view the meal plans, recipes and shopping list here so there’s no guessing work!

We’re hugely behind this great new tool on the road to better health, so much so that’s we’re prepared to do it ourselves!  So make sure you keep an eye on our Facebook page to see how we’re getting on!  And at less than €10 for a week’s supply what have you got to lose (except low mood and energy and a few inches round the waistline maybe?).

Therapist of the Month – Acupuncturist & Herbalist Atara Noiade

Atara Noiade

We’re always excited when a new therapy option becomes available so when Atara Noiade introduced herself to us recently we were more than happy to invite her to work from Only Natural’s therapy room.
Atara hails from the US and is a practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbalism. Acupuncture forms the basis of traditional Chinese Medicine and consists of the insertion of very thin needles at specific body points. This is to facilitate the smooth and balanced flow of Qi (body energy, pronounced Chee) along channels called meridians just beneath the surface of the skin. The purpose of this is to bring the body back into balance and relieve minor, and not so minor, ailments. According to Atara’s own website “the effectiveness of acupuncture is well documented and is endorsed as a system of primary health care by the World Health Organization.”  Although acupuncture is commonly used for pain relief Atara lists the following as disorders that can also be helped by the technique : Insomnia, stress/tension, fatigue, palpitations, arthritis and joint problems, headaches and migraines, diabetes, IBS, PMS, smoking, sciatica, visual problems, infertility and bladder/kidney problems. read more →

Product of the Month, Higher Nature Balance for Nerves

We think it does what it says on the tin!

Higher Nature logo

We are often asked for something natural to deal with stress and, despite the fact that there are many great products on the market to do just that and it’s never a one size fits all situation as everyone’s needs vary, I often find myself recommending Higher Nature’s Balance for Nerves Capsules as one of the best of them.

The formula contains, among other things, the following :
A number of nerve soothing B vitamins including 50mg of Pantothenic Acid (B5) per capsule to support the adrenal glands and, over time, bring down the body’s production of ‘cortisol’ the ‘fight or flight’ hormone so relieving us of the Higher-nature-balance-for-nerves-imageneed to be on ‘alert status’.
Magnesium, calms the muscles, nature’s relaxant.
L Theanine, an active principal of green tea, increases the body’s production of dopamine and serotonin, both of which are important in relaxation and mood stabilization. L Theanine is thought to affect the body in the same way as meditation does by leading to a state of relaxed alertness.
Lemon Balm which is regarded as a calming herb to reduce stress and anxiety and promote sleep.
Passion Flower which is also beneficial for anxiety and insomnia.
Taurine is an amino acid which encourages the production of the neurotransmitter GABA which in turn decreases the production of cortisol and adrenaline. This allows the body to manage anxiety so that thoughts don’t go spiraling out of control.

So if stress is an issue for you either in the shorter or the longer term consider a natural supplement to help bring you back into balance and remember how good life can be. We think that Higher Nature Balance for Nerves might just be a good first port of call.
30 capsules (two  or four daily) retail for €7.99 and 90 capsules for €21.99.
