Depression

A Day with The Master!

Ger and Kim with Ian White Australian Bush Flower
Last month Kim and I spent a day in the lovely surroundings of Malahide Castle in Dublin learning more about the Australian Bush Flower essences from Ian White the Australian healer and naturopath who’s spent most of his life developing the range and training others in their use. It was inspirational to spend time in his company. The first thing I noticed about him was his slow, deliberate, way of speaking, frequently punctuated by pauses for reflection. His spirituality, sincerity and his deep love for the remedies and admiration for the plants that they’re made from were obvious from the start and he peppered the day with many stories of people who’d been helped spiritually, emotionally and physically by them. He showed many slides of himself gathering the plants to make the remedies (he does all of that himself!) in the outback and the majesty of the Australia’s nature seemed to validate the potency of the remedies (as well as making me want to be on an Australia bound aeroplane at the earliest possible opportunity!). read more →

Viridian Natural Health Summit 2016

Viridian Natural Health Summit 2016

Road Trip Time!

It’s well known that we love the big hearted brand Viridian here in Only Natural so when we were invited to their Natural Health Summit in London recently we knew we had to attend!

Viridian are known for doing things right – the company was founded on two fundamental principles; to develop a range of supplements with the highest possible ethical standards and to generate significant funds for children’s and environmental charities – so we knew their health summit would be no different.  It was an all-day event with a host of inspirational, world-leading experts.  The theme of the day was Transformation – transforming the health of people, lives, society, future generations and the planet.  So with that Nichola and Michelle headed off with open minds, hoping to come back all inspired.

The first and fourth speaker of the day was Deanna Minich and she was discussing ‘The Science of Colour and the Art of Healing’ and then delving into this in more detail in her afternoon talk on ‘Phytonutrients: Latest Science and Clinical Application.

Viridian Natural Health Summit Deanna MinichAccording to Deanna ‘We can think of food as pure physical nourishment – to give us the calories we need to function – to move, speak or think.  Or, we can expand our vision to encompass eating as something that connects us to our inner and outer landscapes – our emotions, creativity, mind, heart, truth, expression, intuition, and need for connection with the environment, people, animals, plants, earth, water, planet and universe.

Don’t worry, be happy!

Whether we like it or not, stress is a fact of modern life, whether it’s the ongoing challenge of ‘managing’ life in this increasingly frantic world or coping with individual high stress events as life throws them at us. It is a natural reaction to events, our mind telling us to be alert and ready to navigate life’s difficulties. It only becomes a problem when that state of alertness becomes habitual. When we experience prolonged periods of worry and anxiousness so great that we start to become overwhelmed by them, then all sorts of things can go wrong. Firstly there’s the feeling itself, life’s joy becomes overshadowed by fear and worry and then other areas of life become affected. We don’t sleep well and don’t have the energy to function properly and our immune system brain fog imageand digestion come under pressure leading to sickness. Mental fog and poor or no decision making replace clarity of mind. Long term unresolved stress can lead to depression and isolation, not a pretty picture!
So whether you’re trying to cope with a tough period or event or fighting a longer battle to feel better remember the natural strategies and aids that can help. There are many herbal, homoeopathic and nutritional aids to combat excess stress, see our product of the month to see the effect some of these have on the body.

These are some lifestyle recommendations.

Eat plenty of whole grains, beans, nuts and green leafy vegetables, they provide B vitamins and Magnesium to support the adrenal glands. Fish, nuts, seeds and good vegetable oils help to balance your mood. Avoid tea and coffee which jangle the nerves (while matcha or powdered green tea can actually help them!) and be wary of alcohol (it’s actually depressive and in troubled times we’re more open to addiction).

Featured Therapist – Gráinne Thompson

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My understanding of Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) is that it involves invoking angelic help to work on a cellular level to replace negative energy imprints left by emotional or physical traumas with more positive ones and I certainly found myself very relaxed after I received an IET Session from Gráinne Thompson.
This fuller description is from an Irish website lightingtheways.com.
IET is a hands on healing modality that helps clear away the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual energy blockages while relaxing in a warm comfortable setting. Nine healing Angels are invited to assist in removing the blockages by working with the healer. It is performed on a fully clothed body and it is a very effective healing treatment based on integrating the pain of the past into the present to clear the energetic path at cellular level for a happy and healthy future. There are nine specific points where we suppress trauma and during this healing the old energy is removed at cellular level and replaced with the opposite. For example in the stomach area we hold onto stress and powerlessness- during an IET healing session this is energetically teased out and replaced with ease. It is a very popular and effective treatment for anyone who may be feeling stuck or unhappy in their life.
These are some of the benefits listed too :
