In Only Natural we work closely with a company called Amber SOS and are looking forward to having Ben from the company in the shop on Saturday 14th October to share his experience of working with Amber and how it can benefit the wearer. Here are the basics to whet your appetite.
Amber, though very beautiful, isn’t a gemstone like the others, it’s fossilized tree resin. Extruded by trees approximately forty billion years ago it has turned into the beautiful ‘gem’ we prize so highly and wear today. The best Amber for therapeutic use comes from the area around the Baltic Sea as it contains a higher percentage (8%) of succinite.
Succinite is the component responsible for the healing properties, mainly pain relief and relaxation, that Amber is known for. To benefit from this it is worn next to the skin for as much of the time as possible. It’s pain killing properties have made it popular for babies going through the pain of teething but it is equally beneficial for adults and is reported to have helped in cases of many chronic ongoing daily conditions.  Bones and joint are top of the list but not exclusive.  Wearing amber has been very successful in dealing with Repetitive Strain Injuries as well as ongoing pains and strains caused by repetitive posture or movements. Many report better sleep patterns as a result of Amber’s relaxing properties and others have reported improvement in migraine, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, chest, ear, nose and throat problems (including hay fever and sinus problems), eczema and psoriasis.  Amber is well known in it’s native area, the Baltic countries, as a remedy for thyroid problems.

For optimum benefit Amber should be worn next to the skin for as much of the time as possible, preferably 24/7.
Bigger can be better. A tiny anklet is good for the smallest people but a growing body needs more amber. A necklace can make more skin contact than a bracelet. But remember, because amber must be worn all the time, it must be comfortable for the wearer. Keep this in mind when choosing.
Give Amber time, like many natural agents it takes time to offer its full benefits. Some people report that they notice an improvement after just one night or a few days. But for others it can take a little longer. Please leave your amber on for up to a month. Often people report that they were not aware of the benefit amber was having until they left it off.
