Viridian art
Viridian brought out a number of supplements for female health recently and here are two that we took on and, while both may have particular relevance to female hormonal cycles, I  think that both have broader applications with benefits for both sexes.

Viridian Thyroid Complex

Viridian Thyroid ComplexTiredness, weight gain, sensitivity to the cold, muscle cramps, constipation and depression are among the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism (under active thyroid function). It’s most common cause is lack of iodine in the diet. In the UK it’s thought that roughly 50% of women of child bearing age are iodine deficient so it’s certainly not uncommon. These symptoms which, while they would point to an under active thyroid, are certainly not specific to the condition so, before taking steps to remedy it, it is generally advisable to have the thyroid function checked by a doctor.
However Viridian’s new Thyroid Complex is certainly a comprehensive nutritional solution for when the diagnosis is sure.
Ingredients include Iodine and Selenium, both needed for the production of thyroid hormones, vitamin A and Zinc, both necessary for optimal thyroid function, B Vitamins to counteract the fatigue which an under functioning thyroid can lead to and, interestingly, Olive Leaf in its role as antioxidant to counteract the oxidative stress which is also believed to play a part in depressing the gland’s function.
As with most Viridian formulas this is a highly specialised combination effective in these specific circumstances.

This supplement can be used in conjunction with thyroid medication but only under the supervision of your healthcare professional.

Magnesium, B6 and Saffron

Viridian Mag, B6 & SaffronA really interesting and highly effective combination of two important nutrients and the herb saffron.
We never tire of singing the praises of making sure you get enough magnesium, it’s use here comes from research which has linked poor magnesium status with depression and low mood. A number of studies have shown benefits of supplementing with magnesium for low mood, depression and anxiety.

Similarly a lack of vitamin B6 is characterised by cracking of the lips and tongue and in more severe cases depression, seizures and cardiovascular disease. Researchers have found that the combination of magnesium and vitamin B6 has significant effects on reducing anxiety-related premenstrual symptoms including nervous tension, mood swings, irritability and anxiety.
Saffron (Crocus sativus) has a long history of use for improving mood and mental health. A traditional Chinese medicine text from the Mongol dynasty for example states that “long-term ingestion causes a person’s heart to be happy,” and considerable modern research supports this traditional mood enhancing use of saffron.

The combination of these three important ingredients in therapeutic doses and absorbable forms make for a uniquely beneficial supplement for use in cases where mood balancing, especially in connection with female hormonal imbalance is called for.

To celebrate the introduction of these two products to our Viridian range both will be on special for the month of February with 25% off the RRP.
