Roses by Doris Potter

Doris Potter Roses
Who does not associate the smell and the beauty of roses with summer, joy, love and well-being.

In our gardens and hedges we can find numerous varieties of often beautifully scented roses. They belong to the family of rosacea, are strong plants with wooden stocks and branches, have beautiful coloured scented flowers with five petals (excepting the hybrid variety), with multiple stamens in the centre. Their fruit, the hip is oval and turns red once ripe. The plant is vigorous and has thorns; the leaves are beautifully formed with a strict rhythmical structure. read more →

Benefits of Plantain

Plantain Doris Potter Only Natural

by Doris Potter

Plantain, (Ribwort, Fleawort) – Plantago Lanceolata and Plantago Major

Plantain is another favourite of mine, mostly unnoticed, yet abundantly grows along the edges along lanes and footpaths, camouflaged amongst grasses. The slightly sticky seeds get carried around with our foot wear. The very observant Red Indians named it the “White Men’s Foot Step” as it grew wherever he had been.

It again proves to be a very nutritious and powerful healing plant. It is easily found and is the perfect first aid plant when out and about. Rub the leaves and put it on itchy allergic skin, or insect bites, or use it as a plaster on wounds. For blisters on your feet, just put the leaves over the blister in your shoes. It is antiseptic, ant inflammatory and promotes the healing process in the tissues.   Plantain also helps wounds that just do not want to heal, like bedsores, ulcers etc. read more →

Tina Wilkins wants to share with us some simple things that anyone can do to introduce some positive energy and healing into our daily lives. In today’s society I think we could all do with a bit of extra positivity and these tips added to over time won’t take much time out of your day but may make you feel that little bit more positive about life!

December

As the nights draw in and it gets colder, natures answer is to withdraw, to pull back from life and slumber until the spring dawns. This made me think about how unnatural our rhythm has become, how apart from nature. For whilst the natural state is to rest, majority of ‘us’ will be caught up in the Christmas rush or trying to cram as much into the daylight hours as we can.

Wexford Yoga Centre Open Day Not To Be Missed

Sadhana Open Day Only Natural
Sadhana Yoga Centre in the Faythe in Wexford town is in the process of reinventing itself largely following events in the life of its founder Linda O’Grady. I had a chat with Linda to find out just what had brought her to this, what her background and modus operandi as a yoga teacher is and just what plans she has for Sadhana.
Linda has been working in the bodywork area for the last twenty years and what struck me was how rightly proud she is of her illustrious yoga lineage. She teaches Vinyasa Krama Yoga and was taught by Srivatsa Ramasami. Srivatsa Ramaswari in turn received the teachings from Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya (November 18, 1888 – February 28, 1989), an Indian yoga teacher, ayurvedic healer and scholar. Often referred to as “the father of modern yoga,”  Krishnamacharya is widely regarded as one of the most influential yoga teachers of the 20th century. If close to source is good then Linda has it!

And hopefully before too long we will have a catalogue of different herbs for various ailements and conditions that you can refer to anytime you wish.

Stop and Smell the Flowers

Suddenly we are cocooned in blankets of summer green, the gentle vibration of the earth is pulsing with life force and if we stop to listen a sense of well-being cascades over us.
This is the healing for this month, just stop, slow down, bend to the open flower and partake of its healing fragrance, touch the terrain of  a tree trunk and senses it’s heart beat, listen to the wind through the leaves. Be aware of the humdrum of busy insects and the magic of the sun as it dapples drops of light on the earth. That is where you will find peace and health this month .
With love and blessings
Diann x

Ayurvedic Information Coffee Morning

Coffee Morning Only Natural

Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. And that everyone’s physical, emotional and spiritual makeup is determined by the balance within them of the five elements earth, water, air, fire and spirit.

If you feel you want learn more about this ancient tradition make sure to come along to our Ayurvedic Coffee Morning on Friday 13th April from 10.30am when Rachel Collins from Elysium Sanctuary will be in with us chatting about how Ayurveda, Yoga or any of the therapies Elysium offers.  And of course there will be plenty of tea, coffee and goodies to eat!!
